The PADI Deep Dive Specialty Course is a great choice for those who wish to brush up their dive planning and general skills. It also gives you a deeper maximum depth, meaning you can dive down to 40 meters once you complete the course. You increase your confidence in the water and consolidate your existing knowledge, going much more ‘in depth’ when it comes to planning your dives and the no decompression limits.
It is obvious that the PADI Deep Diver Specialty Course is not a course for beginners. You have to be at least 15 years or older and you must be in the possession of a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certificate or an equivalent, such as PADI Adventure Diver certificate.
The PADI Deep Diver Specialty Course is a two days during course.
This course is divided into two main sections.
The knowledge development or also often called the theoretical part of the course will review the reasons for deep diving and how important it is to know your personal limits. When diving to much deeper depths, there is more risk involved, such as nitrogen narcosis, and oxygen toxicity. You will learn about the risks of nitrogen accumulation and decompression sickness. There is a strong focus on dive planning and gas management. Your instructor will show you the impact of pressure changes when diving deeper. Some considerations on diving equipment for deep diving will be given. The techniques for diving between 18 and 40 meters will be explained. But also planning, organization and execution of deep dives is an essential part of the course.
The second part of the course is the practical session. It consists of 4 deep dives divided over 2 days in open water where you will have the chance to practice the deep diving techniques and skills you have just learned.
After completing the course, you will receive your PADI Deep Diver certificate that allows you to dive anywhere in the world to depths until 40 meters.
