A diver propulsion vehicle, abbreviated DPV, is known under different names like underwater propulsion vehicle or underwater scooter. They are all the same: a diving equipment used by divers to increase range underwater. A diver propulsion vehicle is designed to provide divers with greater mobility and less air consumption, giving more bottom time and a far greater range. However using a DPV requires some amount of mastery. The PADI Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) Specialty course will provide you with the needed knowledge and skills to handle such a vehicle. This course is considered to be one of the fun diving courses.
In order to participate in the PADI Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) Specialty Course you must have reached the age of 12 years and be a certified PADI Open Water Diver.
This course will take 1 day or maximum 2 days if you really want to make at your own pace.
The PADI Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) Specialty Course familiarizes participants with the knowledge, planning, organization, procedures, techniques, potential problems and dangers associated with using an underwater scooter.
The course covers the planning and organization of dives and how to deal with potential problems and hazards of diving with a diver propulsion vehicle including procedures for staying with you buddy and lost buddy procedure.
Special equipment considerations will be discussed, such as which diver propulsion vehicle is the best for you, how to maintain your DPV, how to take care of the battery and all necessary precautions involved.
Next to the above, you will learn avoiding propeller entanglement, dealing with vehicle failure or a runaway motor.
Your instructor will teach you how to perform proper descents and ascents and how to determine an appropriate turnaround point. Techniques to avoid harming or damaging fragile marine life is a topic in this course.
Techniques for entering and exiting the water with an underwater scooter, whether it is from shore of from a boat will be explained.
You will perform two open water dives while whizzing around faster underwater in a safe and controlled manner.
